I love the look of shawls, and there are so many gorgeous patterns out in the knitting world right now. So, I knit a couple.
But then I never wore them. I don't like to keep readjusting the clothes I wear, so I wanted to wear shawls like large scarves rather than draped around my shoulders. The problem lay in my body insecurities. I've always been a bit ashamed of what I thought of as my large-for-how-short-I-am bust size. Therefore, I've always avoided large scarves and thus shawls.
That's it, I thought. I tried this shawl thing but, as fun as they can be to knit, they're just not for me.
But then, once the cold weather rolled around again, I decided to give my shawls one more try. I wrapped one around my neck and headed outside.
It was perfect. Soft, squishy, comfortable, warm. And you know what? They looked good. Maybe I've been out of high school long enough to get over some of my insecurities. Maybe I've just learned that I would rather be comfy and happy than stylish and miserable. Whatever it is, I love my shawls now, and I so want to make more.
