“Then the heart of Eowyn changed, or else at last she understood it. And suddenly her winter passed, and the sun shone on her.”
-The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien
This is the moment when Eowyn realizes that she loves Faramir and is content living a quiet life. She no longer desires to ride into and die in battle or become a great queen. She states that she would be happy being a healer and loving growing things. This is one of my favorite moments in The Return of the King. It’s a moment, not of transformation because this change has been growing slowly in her heart, but of realization. Eowyn suddenly realizes that she would be happier leading a quiet life with Faramir than the glorious life she had dreamed of with Aragorn.
This cowl contains both the simple solid, dependable color of the handspun yarn and the glorious reds and blues of the contrasting color, symbolizing the two desires that are in Eowyn's heart.
